I’m back from a nice vacation, Croatia is a good “family vacation” country. Not once did I see any criminality anywhere. Even at the beach we could leave our things, go for a swim and then come back and no stuff was missing.
The food was overall good although I had higher expectations before the trip. As an example, it was not easy to find a place where they served a quite simple, mixed salad. Meat dishes were genrally ok but nothing extra there either. We did not also manage to taste a decent local white wine although we asked for recommendations. Even the cheaper end Mosel whites beat Croatian hands down. Ok, taste is different between people and I’m not personally a huge fan of white wines but still. And if you wanted a good single malt whiskey as desert, well.., good luck finding a place where they serve anything more exotic than Ballantines (found Lagavulin in one place but they were out of it..).
Also the customer service at restaurants differs quite a bit from what we are used to over here. Some places were very good when others were well below how a customer should be treated in my opinion. I have to give credits to the hotel where we stayed though, never have I got such a good customer service as I did there!
The landscape in Croatia is beautiful. The beaches were overall very good, clear water and not too crowdy. Not perhaps the best place for diving but snorkeling was much fun. Croatia is not a “party place” but peaceful and lovely, I hope to visit again soon!
Below a short video of what I managed to record. The video quality is not top of the line since it was recorded with and oldish Canon Ixus (XGA@15fps and shaky at times).
